"A firm and silky red with blueberry, blackberry and mint undertones. This is a big wine that grows on the palate. Impressive. Needs time to come together but so much here. A triumph for Cecchi. Better in 2018." - (November 9, 2016)

Notes from the Winemaker:

The rich Tenuta Frescobaldi di Castiglioni, this estate’s iconic wine, is clearly in a modern key, but holds fast to the qualities of its local terroir. The labels of the bottles prior to the 2009 vintage presented the caption as “Tenuta di Castiglioni”.

Tenuta Frescobaldi di Castiglioni 2011 boasts a splendid purple-red, with violet highlights. The nose lays out intense aromas of bright red fruit, such as wild strawberry and redcurrant, followed by lovely, pungent notes of anise and cinnamon plus subtle hints of cocoa powder. In the mouth, a lengthy, slow-paced progression is accompanied by superb structure, an emphatic acidity, and dense, well-integrated tannins. The finish is nicely fruit-laden.

Food Pairing: Ideal with game such as hare and boar, with roasted or sautéed beef, roast of pork, as well as with full-flavoured cheeses.

Variety: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Sangiovese

Alcohol by volume: 13.5%

Ratings & Reviews

92 Points -
James Suckling:
"This is a solid red with blueberry and currant character. Full body, with silky and chewy tannins and a long, long finish. Tangy acidity with a citrus undertone. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, and sangiovese. Better in 2015." –JS (September 30th, 2013)

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from the stunningly beautiful Castello di Nipozzano property just a short drive from Florence, the 2010 Mormoreto is a massive and impenetrable wine. ark black/inky color characterizes its appearance and the wine peels back, layer after thick layer, to reveal prune, dark plum, bitter chocolate, toasted espresso, sweet spice and cinnamon. The plushness of the fruit and the richness of the texture are monumental. It-s almost too much of a good thing. The flavors all seem bunched up in the realm of chocolate-covered coffee bean and candied cherry. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025." - Monica Larner (Aug 2013)

90 Points & Rank #46, Top 100 Wines of 2015 - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Firm and taut, with a core of cherry and berry flavors, accented by underbrush, tobacco and iron notes. Balanced in a lean way, with a lingering aftertaste of earth and mineral. Best from 2016 through 2025. 100,000 cases made." - BS (Feb 28, 2015)
