Dry hopped bohemian pilsner. This is an updated recipe from last yearÕs delicious pilsner with new Mandarina Bavaria dry hops for a beautiful west coast hop aroma. The lightest of the European lagers, this Munich-style beer was made to counter the bitter pilsners coming from Northern Germany and the Czech Republic. Lux has a clean aroma with just a touch of grassy hops leading to a sweet, toasty malt flavor. This sustains to a crisp finish with just a hint of noble hop aroma. This beer defines refreshing!

Oskar Blues’ Mama’s Little Yella Pils is an uncompromising, small-batch version of the beer that made Pilsen, Czech Republic, famous. Unlike mass market “pilsners” diluted with corn & rice, Mama’s is built with 100% pale malt, German specialty malts, and Saaz hops. While its rich with Czeched-out flavor, its gentle hopping (35 IBUs) and low ABV (just 5.3%) make it a luxurious but low-dose (by Oskar Blues standards) refresher.

The pilsner is brewed to a classic European recipe using 100% New Zealand malt and New Zealand Saaz hops. This gives it a traditional hop bitterness, flavour and aroma of a true pilsner. An authentic Czech pilsner yeast was selected for its ability to ferment at very low temperatures to produce low levels of esters and other by-products while enhancing the malt perception and allowing the clean crisp bitterness to show in the foreground. A full strength beer with 5% alc/vol.

In The beginning, there were ales. As far as anyone knows, the first beers made were 'top-fermented', which is longhand for 'Ale'. Sometime long before the 1860's, beers became popular that were made in Northern Europe with a bottom fermenting yeast strain that liked the colder temperatures. Because they had to spend weeks aging before they tasted their best, they were known as 'Lager' beer. Lager is the German word for 'storage'. Since they had to sit a while, they took up more time and space and as such were harder and more expensive to make. Where ales are meaty, lagers are sinewy. Where ales are stree, lagers are 'haute couture'. Where an ale might hit you over the head and take your wallet, lagers donate to charity and adopt stray cats. While an ale might steal your car or try to date your daughter and keep her out all night for who-knows-what purpose, a well bred lager would offer to clean your house while you're on vacation and leave fresh scones and coffee for you when you return. Now, don't get us wrong, ales can be a lot of fun to hang out with when you're in the right mood, and if you have bail money on you. But what's wrong with livin' uptown from time to time, on a nice street, where the doormen all wear those little uniforms, the air smells of flowers, and lagers rule the Earth. Cheers!

Bavik Premium Pilsner, is considered one of the best Belgian Pilsners, and is certainly one that survived the onslaught by Interbrew-Labatt, which tried, and still tries to take over as many Belgian breweries as possible, to shut them down and to stop brewing their beers.

Bavik Premium Pilsner has been brewed since the creation of the brewery in 1894. Indeed, the emergence of the Pilsner, only a few decades earlier in Bavaria and Czechia, was one of the main reasons Mr. De Brabandere started his brewery. Read about the history of the brewery on the brewery-page. The Bavik Premium Pilsner has a very strong market in the Southern part of West Flanders and in theWestern part of Northern France. This is in fact the ‘local’ market for the brewery, and this market is still growing at a healthy pace.
