92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The Masi 2012 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Costasera is a plump and rich wine that portrays the opulent characteristics of this hot vintage. Dark blackberry is followed by sweet tobacco, baking spice, tar or resin. This beautiful Amarone glides smoothly over the palate imparting dense extraction and dark fruit flavors along the way. The wine has the natural constitution to hold strong for the next decade." -Monica Larner (May 2017)

"The 2012 Alanera is a new edition to the Zenato portfolio and pays tribute to the family patron who developed the estate's vineyards. the label depicts three swallows that are symbols of the three main hills that dominate this corner of Valpolicella. This IGT blend is composed of 55% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 10% Corvinone and 10% other grapes that are aged in part in oak, and in part in stainless steel. Dark ruby red, the aromas are intense and characteristic, recalling ripe fruit and spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, generous, warm and offers a persistent finish. The wine is fermented a second time on the lees of the dried grapes used to produce Amarone. This enhances its body, color and alcohol content and makes it more suitable for the long aging in barrels (16 months), which is followed by a further 6 months in bottle before release.

After harvest, carefully selected bunches of grapes are put into small trays where they are left to dry for three months. This concentrates the flavors of the wine. It offers very complex aromas, balanced between ripe fruit and spice, while on the palate, it is a very full-bodied wine, spicy and well-balanced between softness, austerity and richness. The wine is aged 30 months in big Slavonian oak barrels then an additional 6 months in bottle before release.
