About This Wine:

Sourced form the Rossi Vineyard in St. Helena, this wine is a field blend of Rhone varietals planted in 1905.

"Since 1980, Sean has been producing wines that are extraordinary not only for great quality and complexity, but also because Sean utilizes unique wine-making techniques, often drawing from historic, sometimes ancient, wine-making practices from all over the world. The results are consistent, as evidenced by Sean’s continued support and enthusiasm from his peers and devoted customers. Sean sources grapes from many locations throughout California, and makes all his wines by hand 'touching every grape' at his small Bolinas winery. Self-taught, and fully reliant on his intuition and senses, Sean is the antithesis of corporate wine-making. The proof is in the bottle."

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Proprietary Red Machete opens with scents of black forest cake, cassis and menthol with a medicinal undercurrent and a waft of chargrill. Medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, it has a compelling earthy/savory character and a long spicy finish. 23,400 cases produced." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (29th Mar 2018)

88 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2011 Petite Sirah has early charm and softness in addition to less concentration and power despite its alcoholic clout. These are all very good examples of Petite Sirah, which remains the most underrated grape in California." - Robert M. Parker, Jr. (Oct 2013)

Notes from the Winemaker:
The 2014 HG III has all the hallmark characteristics of a classic vintage in an expansive, approachable wine upon release. Explosive aromas and flavors of bright black and Bing cherries, blackberries, and pomegranate mingle with roasted hazelnut, toasted vanilla bean and an unmistakable hint of rich dark chocolate. Incorporating the best elements of blending, Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine structure and a lingering finish, while Merlot provides a supple, sleek mid-palate and lush, seductive mouthfeel. The "III" in HG III, Petite Sirah brings the wine's depth and layering (its "secret sauce"). By design, HG III delivers exceptional enjoyment at the pull of the cork. Enjoy!

This is the newest red wine at Vignalta and one of the most innovative. With a very dark red color, this wine opens with an intense aroma of raspberry and blackberries, cocoa and sweet spices, followed by a balsamic hint and a very sophisticated finish. The taste reveals all the wine's structure, body and tannins, it's nicely fresh but not invasive and fairly balanced even now. Quite savory, the finish is fairly long and slightly bitter. Solid but elegant, it offers an "iron fist in a velvet glove.

The color of the 2010 Petite Sirah is deep and inky. When swirled up the sides of the glass the wine seems reluctant to return to the bowl; the purple color slowly retreats from the inner walls of the glass leaving a rose colored sheen to the crystal. Big jammy scents of ripe concentrated blackberry, black raspberry and boysenberry dominate the aroma. The heavily toasted interiors of the French oak barrels add a smoky dark chocolate to the bouquet. Big creamy mouth coating flavors of ripe boysenberry and blackberry are accompanied by a note of caramel. The texture is full of thick viscous but mature soft tannins, and the finish is long and lingers well after swallowing the wine.

Concentrated black plums and berries. Crushed blackberry and a hint of eucalyptus lined with green pepper, cardamom, lilac, and tamed minerality, with a smoky element adding complexity. A concoction of juicy, ripe, dark berries with ample sweetness and bite. With such intensity, this wine shows uncanny texture and lift. Finishes with broad, fine-grained tannins and palate-staining length.

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Named after the founder of Stags Leap Winery, the outstanding 2012 Proprietary Red The Investor is a blend of 40% Merlot, 40% Petite Sirah and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Ripe blackberry and blackcurrant fruit intermixed with notions of chocolate, lavender, unsmoked cigar tobacco and underbrush are present in this meaty, chewy, attractive, velvety textured 2012. Enjoy this well-made red over the next decade." - (Oct. 2014)
