About Schweiger Vineyards

At 2,000 feet above the valley floor, Schweiger Vineyards sits on Spring Mountain with nearby neighborsPride Mountain Vineyards, Paloma, Cain and Newton among others.

In 1960, current winemaker Andrew Schweiger's grandparents, Tony and Theresa Schweiger, purchased 53 acres on Spring Mountain. In the 1980s, the Schweiger's estate vineyards were producing beautiful mountain fruit. For many years, the Schweiger family sold their fruit to Cafaro Cellars, ZD, Newton and Stags Leap Winery.

In 1994, Schweiger Vineyards became a bonded winery and the family began bottling wine under their own label, though they continued to sell most of their grapes to the contracted wineries. Andrew Schweiger, who was down the street at Cain (and previously with Joseph Phelps,Trefethen, ZD, Chateau St. Jean) at the time, began working a second job, with his family, as the winemaker at Schweiger.

Schweiger: Taming a Stallion

Posted: November 15th, 2000 - James Laube:

"There's a rustic, dusty earth and wild berry character in the sturdy 1997 Schweiger Cabernet Sauvignon (93 points, $45). And it has a tannic structure that bodes well for cellaring. Once you set foot on the rugged terrain of this Spring Mountain vineyard, it's easy to see how the soil and climate nourish the grapes that produce this rather immense, intensely flavored wine.

Spring Mountain has a well-deserved reputation for hearty, tannic reds. But some of the newer versions coming from this appellation, west of St. Helena in Napa Valley, show a sense of refinement. It's as if the winemakers are succeeding in their efforts to rein in a wild stallion."

This is our ninth release of Sauvignon Blanc from Uboldi Vineyards in Kenwood, CA.

Our goal is to preserve the fresh fruit quality while enhancing the mouth feel. To best ensure that this wine reaches your table this way, we utilize the Stelvin Screw Cap, the best closure available for aromatic white sines such as this. Not only is the bottle easy to open, but you are guaranteed quality in every bottle with no chance of oxidation or taint.

The aromatics of this wine blend a broad spectrum from lemongrass, citrus, and green apples to apricot, melon, and tropical fruits. These fruit characters are very present in the mouth, accompanying a very crisp finish with lingering tropical components. The acidity of this wine makes it refreshing and food friendly. This wine is best served between 52 and 58 degrees F (an average refrigerator after two hours)

Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2001 vintage):
"Bright and fresh on the palate, with zippy citrus and gooseberry aromas up front. They continue along the palate, blending with melon and herb flavors to deliver a pleasing , refreshing quaff." — J.M. (10/1/2003)
