Notes from the Winemaker:

The growing season was characterized by elevated temperatures during the summer months and low precipitation. The particularly dry season favoured an even and consistent development of grapes. Although our harvest took a long time, both Sangiovese and Merlot maintained a perfect state of health to the very end. The fi rst step toward obtaining quality wines.

Lucente 2012 has a deep purple colour. The bouquet is powerful, with aromas of ripe fruit, black cherry, and wild strawberry. Pleasant sweet spices and hints of Mediterranean shrublands bring out the complexity of this wine. The palate is round and velvety with a very fi ne tannin texture and enlivened by fresh notes of eucalyptus. The slightly smoky finish makes it a complex wine, powerful and elegant.

Ratings & Reviews

92 Points - James Suckling:

"Aromas of blackberries, minerals and fresh herbs. Full body, firm tannins and a savory, juicy aftertaste. Hints of toasted oak. The second wine of Luce. Needs time to soften but delicious already. Better in 2016." - (October 20th, 2014)

91 Points - Antonio Galloni:

"A racy, expressive wine, the 2012 Lucente captures the personality of the year in spades. Super-ripe red stone fruits, raspberry jam, mocha and sweet spices are all juicy and exuberant in a silky red to drink now and over the next handful of years. The 2012 Lucente makes a great introduction to this range of wines from the Frescobaldi family." - Antonio Galloni (February 2015)

90 Points - Wine Spectator (2011 Vintage):

"Ripe and somewhat exotic, offering boysenberry, candied cherry and floral flavors singed by chocolate, coffee and tar notes. The fruit carries the day, trumping the burly tannins and layer of new oak. For fans of the style. Merlot and Sangiovese. Best from 2017 through 2028. 6,000 cases imported." – BS (Oct 15, 2014)
