About the wine:

A great wine with a great history to which the Elvio Cogno winery has always devoted care and commitment. An excellent full-bodied wine, packed with fruit. True to tradition, its early freshness and complexity after bottle ageing make it great for daily drinking.

TASTING NOTES:
Bright ruby red in colour with deep violet highlights. The perfume is immediate and intense, uncompromisingly vinous and persistent. It is redolent of grape must which, on ageing, develops sensations of red forest fruits. The bouquet is dry and full-bodied, elegant and round, with notes of fruit and a wonderfully almondy finish. Serve with starters, pasta, soups, salamis and cream cheeses.
Serving temperature: 16-18°C.

Ratings & Reviews

90 Points - Wine & Spirits:
"A heady Dolcetto with masses of blue fruit. This is a generous, supple wine -- all about richness of texture. Pour it with a venison chop."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:

"Cogno’s 2011 Dolcetto d’Alba Vigna del Mandorlo is laced with sweet plums, cherries, licorice and menthol, all of which come together beautifully in the glass. This is a relatively accessible vintage for Cogno’s Dolcetto, a wine that is sometimes bigger and more powerful. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015." - Antonio Galloni (Oct 2012)

Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Soft and fruity, this red bursts with black cherry and almond flavors. Gathers together on the finish, where light tannins offer grip. Drink now. 321 cases imported." –BS (Dec 15, 2012)

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2010 vintage):
"The 2010 Dolcetto d’Alba Vigna del Mandorlo is a big, dark wine bursting with fruit. This is an especially brooding, virile Dolcetto that needs to be paired with food. Violets, tar and scorched earth are some of the notes that add complexity to the blueberry and blackberry fruit. The finish shows notable grip and energy, adding tons of personality and sheer character. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. " - Antonio Galloni (Oct 2011)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2010 vintage):
"Good bright red-ruby. Slightly metallic aromas of cherry and licorice, with a green, herbal side. Juicy and bright but dry and a bit pinched, with a medicinal black cherry flavor dominating. Finishes firmly tannic but not dry. Could use a bit more flesh and personality." - Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Oct '11)

Wine Spectator Magazine (2010 vintage):
"Inky purple, this is a concentrated, tannic red that displays juicy black cherry and cherry flavors. Just a bit pinched on the finish now, but should open nicely. Drink now through 2016. 200 cases imported. –BS (Web Only 2012)
