Notes from the Winemaker:

The color is pale yellow with a silvery glint. The wine is crystal and clear. The nose shows beautiful white flowers and yellow fruit, ripe with a touch of angelic (small candied fruit). The mouth has a very expressive and balanced freshness. The flinty minerality springs with a light smoky taste in the mouth. "Le Rochoy" beautifully extends its aromas with amazing generosity.

Vineyard
“Domaine du Rochoy” is a 10-hectare slope, unique in the region of Sancerre. Soaking up the heat in the daytime, the flint rocks of the vineyard slowly cool in the night.

Vinification
After racking at low temperature, the wine ferments for 10 days in stainless steel tanks at temperatures ranging from 15° to 20°C (59° to 68°F). Neither yeasting nor malolactic
fermentation is employed. The wine is matured on its fine lees for 5 months and is then vacuum-bottled (exclusively in darkly tinted bottles). Only high quality natural corks are used. The wine undergoes additional maturation for at least one month in the bottle before being offered for sale

This helps the grapes to ripen more quickly and results in the production of a rich, well-balanced white Sancerre with a fine flinty tang.

WINE AND FOOD:
Smoked fish, shellfish and white meats.

SERVING TEMPERATURE: 11°C.
AGING: 3 to 7 years following the harvest.

Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast (2014 vintage):
"Produced on silex, flint soil, this is fruity, juicy and lemon-flavored wine. There is a strong mineral element here, giving a crisp texture. It's really the perfumed character and the intense fruit that sets this wine apart. It is ready to drink if you like fruit, although it will be better as the fabulous texture kicks in, so wait until 2017." - RV (4/1/2016)

Antonio Galloni - Vinous (2013 Vintage) :
"
Greenish yellow. Pear, quince, crushed stone and ginger on the nose. The slightly reductive palate offers classic citrus and herbal flavors with good mineral snap. This tangy sauvignon blanc finishes with pleasant length."

Wine Spectator Magazine (2012 Vintage) :

"Racy, with good flint, lime pulp and gooseberry notes that stay zippy through the finish. A little shy on depth but delivers a brisk feel overall. Drink now. 728 cases imported." -JM (Web Only - 2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2011 vintage):
"From a striking and meticulously tended flint-rich site I toured just above the Loire Canal at the northern edge of St Satur, the Laporte 2011 Sancerre Le Rochoy was set to have been bottled in June. From tank, it smelled of lime and passion fruit along with pungent green herbs. Like others I tasted, this Laporte is surprisingly bright, exuberantly juicy, and lean in texture for its vintage. It finishes (regardless of the large difference in terroir) with strong resemblance to its Les Grandmontains counterpart, melon and lime rind teaming up with herbs for a bracingly bitter back-end. It seems strange to me given both site and vintage why this doesn’t taste riper. I suspect it will be best drunk over the next 2-3 years." -David Schildknecht (Jun 2012)

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2010 vintage):
"This is very aromatic, with minerality vying with fruit and tense acidity. This complex wine has an austere side, both rich and structured that will soften in a couple of years." -Roger Voss (9/1/2012)
