Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - James Suckling:
"A big and ripe red with chocolate, coffee bean, toasted oak and a ripe fruit. Full body, layered and juicy. An intense wine. Better in 2019 when it softens." - (28 Aug, 2017)

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Based on Cabernet Sauvignon (with a smaller part Merlot), the 2013 Cignale is a shapely and opulent red wine from one of the most beautiful corners of Tuscany. The wine's appearance is inky and richly saturated with a velvety black appearance. The bouquet is almost over the top with ripe and thickly extracted aromas of blackberry marmalade and prune. The finish delivers firm structure and sweet flavors of baking and exotic spice. This is the proverbial big boy wine that ages in French oak for 24 months." - Monica Larner (31st Oct 2017)

90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"At or close to peaking, this red displays fading cherry and plum fruit, complemented by leather, mushroom, woodsy and spice aromas and flavors. Still firm, with a lingering aftertaste and plenty to give. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2024. 1,000 cases made, 300 cases imported." - BS (Issue Dec 31, 2019)

88 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:

"Made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this offers aromas of underbrush, cedar and black plum. The dense palate evokes ripe black currant, mocha and white pepper alongside firm tannins. Kerin O’Keefe" - (5/1/2019)

88 Points - Vinous:
"The 2013 Cignale comes across as heavy and overdone. Black cherry, chocolate, grilled herb, leather and menthol give the 2013 its powerful and yet obvious personality. Early signs of oxidation are apparent and the wine is lacking in freshness. Cignale may need an updating, as it is a wine that stylistically belongs to the past." Antonio Galloni - (Feb 2019)
