Notes from the Winemaker:

Considered a superb vintage, the dry, sunny growing season gave our 2012 Reserve Tapestry its opulent, dark-fruit character and plush-textured mouthfeel while five Bordeaux-heritage varietals contributed layer-upon-layer of flavor complexity. This is a wine that shows the artistry of the winemaker. Jeffrey chose Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the wine’s core briary blackberry and cassis expression and its plush mid-palate structure. He then added Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec to complete the blend with nuances of ripe plum, rose forest loam and graphite.

Varietal Composition: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot, 3% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot

Barrel Aging: 22 months (60% new barrels) - 75% European oak (Frenchand Hungarian), 25% American oak

Vintage:
The high-quality 2012 harvest was a winemaker's dream. The relaxed, easy vintage was greatly appreciated after the challengingly cool weather patterns in 2011. Long stretches of sunny days coupled with foggy nights gave our 2012 wines exceptionally rich, expressive flavors and impeccable balance. The ideal growing season-well-timed rains, no frost during bud break, and perfect weather for bloom, berry-set and ripening-was textbook Napa Valley.

Vineyard:

Winemaker Jeffrey Stambor chose specific blocks of reserve-quality grapes that would give Tapestry the combined attributes of fruit expression and softer tannins for relatively early approachability. He selected half of the Cabernet Sauvignon from the famous bench on the west side of the Rutherford American Viticultural Area (AVA) and the balance from the Stags Leap District, St. Helena and Calistoga AVAs. The Merlot was split from our vineyards in the warmer parts of Carneros and he Rutherford Bench. The Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec came from our estate vineyards in St. Helena and Calistoga.

Ratings & Reviews

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The impressive 2012 Reserve Tapestry, a blend of Bordeaux varietals, is more elegant and slightly less intense than the Private Reserve. It offers up sweet black cherry fruit notes intermixed with licorice, spice box and dusty, loamy soil undertones. Medium to full-bodied and deep with loads of ripe fruit, low acidity and sweet, velvety tannins, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.

There is no question that Beaulieu Vineyards, an iconic estate in Rutherford that made so many great Cabernet Sauvignons in the fifties, sixties and early seventies, is returning to form. A lot of the credit must go to the brilliant international wine consultant, Michel Rolland, who works primarily on the Private Reserve program. The current group of 2012s showcase that beautiful vintage very nicely." - Robert M. Parker, Jr. (Oct 2014)
