About The Winery:

Argillae, the spirit of the matter, comes from the passion, rooted in time, of the owners, Bonollo, Di Cosimo and Ascenzi families.

Starting from their love for the earth and its fruits, they gave life to this plan whose goal is to be projected into the future with the acknowledgment of the past.

According to the philosophy that in order to produce high quality wines and olive oil, it’s necessary to find the right territory, after many researches it has been chosen a unique place in the Orvieto area, which for exposure and structure it’s particularly suitable, and that’s the reason why the name “Argillae” was chosen.

Passion and capacity, tradition and technology, love for the territory, are expressed in our products, wines and olive oil of excellent quality are true ambassadors of Umbria region.

Winemaker's Notes:
The grapes are carefully selected in the vineyards, submitted to a brief cold maceration. After a brief pressing the resulting juice is racked and vinified at controlled temperature and its subsequent fining on fine lees enhances its organoleptic properties.

Tasting Notes:
Colour: dark straw yellow
Fragrance and taste: intense and direct with an almond and mineral flavour, it is the full expression of the particularly intriguing aromas of the Grechetto vine, accompanied by a sense-warming and harmonious tasting experience that perfectly dovetails into the aftertaste sensations released by the “terroir” of this wine estate.

Ratings & Reviews

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2012 Grechetto only sees stainless steel for a very pretty bouquet of fresh peach, grapefruit, crushed stone and mango. The wine ends with refreshing acidity that is bright without being sharp. Drink: 2013-2015." -Monica Larner (Aug 2013)

Wine Spectator Magazine:
"This fresh white features hints of herb, white pepper and stone mixed with apricot and candied citrus zest flavors. Clean finish. Drink now. 583 cases made." -AN (Web Only - 2014)

Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Made from Grechetto, a grape widely planted in parts of Umbria, this opens with aromas of apricot, tropical fruit and citrus. The delicious palate offers crisp acidity and flavors of ripe peach, cantaloupe, lemon zest, almond and thyme." -Kerin O’Keefe (2/1/2014)

90 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous (2011 vintage):
"Argillae's 2011 Grechetto impresses for its vibrant fruit and sheer personality. Sweet, floral-infused white peaches and crushed rocks seem to jump from the glass in this beautiful, delineated Umbrian white. All the elements are in place for the 2011 to drink well for the next few years. I very much like the sense of energy and salinity here." -Antonio Galloni (Feb 2013)
